Court issues order on Wimal Weerawansa’s protest near Education Ministry

A court today issued an order in connection with a protest organised by National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa near the Ministry of Education, following a request made by the police citing public inconvenience and security concerns. According to court proceedings , the police informed the court that the protest had caused traffic congestion and disruption to public movement in the area surrounding the Education Ministry. The police further stated that there was a risk of obstruction to official duties and public access if demonstrations continued without regulation. Based on submissions made by the Police Media Division , the court ordered that no individual or group should obstruct roads, public pathways, or access points to the Ministry of Education during protests. The court also emphasised that demonstrations must be conducted in a lawful and peaceful manner, without disturbing public order. Virat Kohli Becomes Second-Highest Run-Scorer in International Cricket History

 Indian batting legend Virat Kohli etched his name further into cricket history on Sunday, surpassing Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer across all formats of international cricket. Kohli achieved the milestone during India’s first One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand in Vadodara, where his unbeaten 93 helped India chase down 301 and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Following Cyclone Ditwah Disruption, GCE A/L Exams Resume Today

 The remaining papers of the 2025 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (A/L) examination are set to resume today after a significant break caused by Cyclone Ditwah , authorities confirmed. The postponed examinations, originally interrupted due to widespread weather disruption late last year, will be conducted under a revised timetable laid out by the Department of Examinations. Candidates across the island will sit for their remaining papers from 12 to 20 January 2026 at over 2,000 examination centres . Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage said logistical preparations have been completed and that exam management teams are in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the tests. Shooting incident in Nawagamuwa

 It was reported a shooting attempt on Manikagara road, Korathota, Nawagamuwa area during the last night (01st January, 2025).  Sri Lanka Police States that 3 (three) male individuals are targeted and 1 (one) individual was died during the incident and other 2(two) individuals were admitted to Homagama Hospital. Investigations are underway.  

School hours will not be extended

 Ministry of Education has announced that they are not going to implement the new proposed school hours extension due to the damages happened in the schools system and transportation sector in the country, until those are restored. Also, they have announced the following notices to the public through their media unit.
