The remaining papers of the 2025 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (A/L) examination are set to resume today after a significant break caused by Cyclone Ditwah, authorities confirmed.
The postponed examinations, originally interrupted due to widespread weather disruption late last year, will be conducted under a revised timetable laid out by the Department of Examinations. Candidates across the island will sit for their remaining papers from 12 to 20 January 2026 at over 2,000 examination centres.
Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage said logistical preparations have been completed and that exam management teams are in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the tests. Students affected by the disruption have been advised to check updated schedules published on the official website and the Department of Examinations’ Facebook page.
In a move to support students impacted by the extreme weather, authorities have also made temporary identity arrangements available — allowing candidates to present certified photographs when their original examination IDs are unavailable. Additionally, candidates from disaster-affected areas can sit in suitable attire if school uniforms were lost or damaged.
The restart follows the General Information Technology (GIT) examination for Grade 12 students, which was held on 11 January as part of the phased recovery of national exams disrupted by the cyclone.
Education officials say this resumption marks a key step in restoring normalcy to the national examination calendar, with efforts continuing to safeguard both student safety and assessment integrity.
